About Cryobank

There are about 200 banks worldwide where it is possible to store stem cells, and more than a half of them are located in the USA. First cryobanks of umbilical cord blood stem cells appeared in America at the beginning of 90-s of the recent century, in Russia – at the beginning of XXI century. And in spite of the fact that Ukraine was in the vanguard of scientific developments in cryoconservation (freezing), the First Cryobank of stem cells of umbilical cord blood was founded in Kiev only in 2003. Ukrainian scientists, that have been studying stem cells for the decades have accumulated significant clinical experience in its application, and they were one of the first pioneers in the world who created high quality technology of stem cells preservation. Galina Lobyntseva, candidate of biological sciences, senior researcher, one of the leading specialists in this area, the world-famed scientist, was awarded with State Prize for the development of stem cells cryoconservation methods for clinical application back in 1991. Nowadays she leads the First in the state Cryobank of umbilical cord blood stem cells, founded on the base of the Institute of Cellular Therapy.
